The launch of the National Identity Caravan in Al Dhafra marks a significant moment in strengthening cultural ties and fostering a sense of belonging within the Emirati community. This comprehensive initiative, organized by the Emirates Fund for National Identity (Watani Al Emarat) in collaboration with numerous ministries and institutions, and under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, aims to reinforce national values and promote social cohesion. The caravan, featuring the participation of over 79 artists, writers, and creatives, officially begins tomorrow, Tuesday, and promises a rich tapestry of events designed to resonate with all segments of Al Dhafra’s diverse population.

قافلة الهوية الوطنية بالظفرة: تعزيز الانتماء والتماسك الأسري (The Al Dhafra National Identity Caravan: Strengthening Belonging and Family Cohesion)

The National Identity Caravan in Al Dhafra isn’t just a series of events; it’s a deliberate effort to connect with the heart of the Emirati spirit. Watani Al Emarat recognizes the importance of preserving and promoting national identity, especially in a rapidly changing world. This caravan is a direct response to that need, bringing a concentrated program of cultural and social activities to the Al Dhafra region. The overarching theme, “A Cohesive Family in a Changing World,” underscores the vital role of the family unit in safeguarding national values.

Components of the Caravan: A Multifaceted Approach

Alongside the Emirates Fund for National Identity’s pavilion at the Al Dhafra Book Festival, the caravan encompasses four major events hosted by the Family Development Foundation in Zayed City. These include a series of family and national identity discussions, the inaugural “Leaders of Tolerance” training program by the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence, the “Pioneers of National Identity” workshop, and a youth forum focused on intergenerational communication.

Focusing on Intergenerational Dialogue

The youth forum, organized in partnership with the Ruler’s Representative Court in Al Dhafra and the Al Dhafra Youth Council, is particularly noteworthy. It aims to bridge the gap between generations, encouraging the sharing of experiences and wisdom. This initiative acknowledges that a strong national identity is built upon a foundation of respect for the past and a hopeful vision for the future. The organizers have intentionally structured the caravan to reach every city within Al Dhafra – Zayed, Liwa, Ghayathi, Al Dhafra, Delma Island, Al Marfa, Al Ruwais, and Sila – ensuring broad participation and impact.

Celebrating Emirati Arts and Heritage

The caravan will also showcase the rich artistic and cultural heritage of the UAE. Interactive reading sessions, meetings with senior citizens, and discussions with experts in Emirati family history, traditions, and heritage are all planned. Special attention will be given to the Arabic language and the Sana’a (traditional crafts) of the Emirates, fostering a deeper appreciation for these essential elements of national identity. This focus on Sana’a and language is crucial for preserving cultural authenticity.

Detailed Program: A Day of Activities

The first day of the caravan, within the framework of “Days of Al Dhafra Council,” will feature a diverse range of activities. A morning interactive reading workshop, led by Ahlam Al Saadi, will focus on the Emirati environment, specifically “Wadi Al Yasmeen.” This will be followed by a session on traditional handicrafts, offering participants the opportunity to learn palm frond weaving (“Lamasa Tarathiya bil Khous“). In the evening, a poetry evening will feature prominent Emirati poets, including Obaid bin Qazlan Al Mazrouei, Ali Bartaa Al Hamli, and Ali Ahmed Al Kindi Al Marar, reciting verses that celebrate Emirati identity and values. The “Khuraif Yidouh” segment will share traditional Emirati stories and include engaging contests.

Sheikh Nahyan’s Vision: A Call for Action

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak emphasized that launching the National Identity Caravan in Al Dhafra during the Al Dhafra Book Festival is a strategic move. It leverages the festival’s creative and cultural momentum, as well as its media attention, to effectively convey the fund’s message to a wider audience. He highlighted two key objectives: strengthening national identity and fostering social cohesion, particularly in light of 2026 being designated as the Year of the Family. He drew inspiration from the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, who consistently emphasizes the family as the cornerstone of society.

Sheikh Nahyan urged participants to focus on topics relevant to daily life in Al Dhafra, including values, traditions, social relationships, and aspirations for the future. He stressed the importance of transforming the concept of intergenerational communication into concrete actions, actively seeking to learn from the experiences of senior citizens and identify any existing gaps in understanding. He also called for showcasing historical sites as vital repositories of memory and identity. Ultimately, he wants the discussions to translate into practical initiatives that benefit homes and communities.

Strong Partnerships: A Collaborative Effort

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak expressed his gratitude for the extensive support received from various partners, including the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Family, the Ministry of Youth, the Ministry of Education, the Department of Education and Knowledge, the Balanced Development Council, the Zayed Heritage Foundation, ADNOC, the Family Development Foundation, the Higher Colleges of Technology, Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities, the Al Dhafra Youth Council, the General Women’s Union, the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, neighborhood councils, the Dar Academy, and the Department of Community Development, alongside the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence.

The National Identity Caravan in Al Dhafra aims to reach all segments of society – Emirati families, school and university students, youth, senior citizens, intellectuals, and local talents. By bringing together diverse voices and perspectives, the caravan seeks to reinforce a shared sense of national pride and belonging, ensuring the continued vibrancy of Emirati culture for generations to come. This initiative represents a powerful investment in the future of the UAE, built on a foundation of strong values and a commitment to social harmony.
